How to Grow Spinach from Seeds?
When buying seeds online, many people face problems with seed germination. Several factors can affect the success rate, including seed quality, temperature, moisture, growing medium, and following the correct procedure, along with a touch of gardener’s love.
While no one can guarantee a 100% success rate, by following these steps correctly, you can achieve a germination rate of 70 to 90%. Remember, even after successful germination, you need to take proper care of the seedlings for the healthy growth and development of the spinach plant.
You can sow spinach seeds in fall, early spring, and even in winters. It thrives in a temperature range of 23 to 17 degrees Celsius.
Create the ideal potting mix by combining 60% normal garden soil with 40% bulky organic manure. If your soil is too clayey, add 30% river sand to the mixture.
Use high-quality and disease-resistant spinach seeds. The preferred method is direct seeding. Fill the pot with the potting mix, leaving 1 to 2 inches of space at the top. Ensure there are drainage holes at the bottom to avoid waterlogging.
Broadcast the spinach seeds over the potting mix and cover them with a thin layer of the mix.
Place the germination pot in partial shade sunlight.
Moisture & Time
Gently water the seeds and keep the pot in direct sunlight. Maintain adequate moisture without overwatering. After 4 to 7 days, you should see new seedlings growing.
Thin out the weaker seedlings to ensure the healthy growth of the remaining plants. Allow the healthy plants to grow in the pot.
