Description
Haworthia coarctata is a tiny succulent plant native to South Africa. It belongs to the family Asphodelaceae and is commonly known as the “Horse’s Teeth” or “Tight-Horned Haworthia.”
This plant has a compact rosette form, consisting of thick, triangular-shaped leaves that taper towards the tip. The leaves are tightly packed and arranged in a spiral pattern, giving the plant a visually striking appearance. The colour of the leaves can vary, but they are typically dark green to grayish-green, sometimes displaying translucent patches or streaks. The leaf surface is smooth & often has raised white tubercles or ridges, adding texture to the overall look.
It is a slow-growing species that can reach a height of about 4 to 6 inches and spread to a width of 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters). It is well-adapted to arid conditions & has evolved succulent characteristics to store water in its leaves. This enables it to thrive in dry, desert-like environments.
In its natural habitat, Haworthia coarctata enjoys rocky or sandy soils. It prefers bright but filtered sunlight and can tolerate both indoor and outdoor space. When provided with the right conditions, it may produce slender, erect flower stalks that bear small, tubular white flowers with greenish veins. These flowers typically bloom in spring or early summer.
Haworthia coarctata is a popular choice among succulent enthusiasts and collectors due to its intriguing leaf arrangement and ease of care. You can grow them in well-draining soil & give infrequent watering, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent rot. Like other succulents, it is also important to protect it from frost and excessive moisture.
