In their official Facebook post on April 24, 2024, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) highlighted a fake page on Instagram that has been using their name for a very long time and has a much larger follower base than the original page. This fake Instagram page with the username “icar.india” has over 116,000 followers and a total of 1,412 posts.

Compared to this, the original ICAR page with the username “officialicarindia” on Instagram has only about 4,247 followers and 475 posts. Although ICAR has already highlighted this issue in their Facebook post, only a few users have taken prompt action to follow the original page after unfollowing the fake Instagram page of ICAR.

Fake social media pages with a good number of followers can easily mislead people with false information and narratives. It could be even worse if the fake page is from a well-established government organization. It is still not clear who is operating this fake page, but it will be confirmed by the IT cell as soon as possible.

Users are therefore required to follow any authorized page very carefully. The best way to find the original pages of a government organization or any authorized body is by visiting their original website. Most authorized organizations link their social media handles to their web pages; therefore, it could be the best way for users to avoid following such fake pages.

If you have followed any fake pages on social media handles and have been misled or scammed, then please highlight your story in the comments. Share this post with all users to make them aware of the fake ICAR page on Instagram and ask them to follow the official page as soon as possible.
