gardening letter

My eyes got fixed at a gardening post on Facebook, I saw pictures of a lot of plants in the Kitchen garden grown by Syamasri. Her love for plants was visible in the post.

I got interested to know her gardening story so I contacted her. We had a good conversation on gardening and I was delighted to get connected with a new garden enthusiast.

Many people can get inspired by her passion for Kitchen gardening. She loves to spend her time in the garden and that brings peace in her busy life.

She sent a Gardening letter to एग्रीकल्चर रिव्यू that I think you must read. The letter is simple yet the message hidden inside is quite deep.

It is not about religions or politics or any country. It is about you and the nature. It is about inspiring every single person living on this planet to start gardening to contribute or take a single step towards the benefit of nature and human beings.

To,
एग्रीकल्चर रिव्यू

Hi, this is Syamasri, I work as a Senior Accountant in Accountant General Office, Agartala, Tripura. I was born and raised in one of the beautiful green part of the North East, India. Gardening has always been a passion & love at the same time.

I have been doing gardening from a very small age turning to be this “Green lover”. Talking about my garden, I have flowering plants, seasonal plants, foliages like coleus along with ferns & begonias etc. I generally make the soil mix by adding cow dung, sand, vegetable waste compost, vermicompost & mustard cake.

The best way to reduce your kitchen waste is to use them back in your garden.

I also have Orchids, adenium & Water plants. The soil preparation for certain plants varies, like for cactus I generally make the soil base by adding a mixture of charcoal, brick chips, sand, perlite, bonemeal & compost. It works as a miracle!

Going organic actually helps, you can see positive results like, I use rice water to my vegetable plants and the crop comes out healthy.

Similarly, these days adding raw cow dung slurry to my orchid plants within every 15 days is boosting up the health of the plant as well as the plant blooms regularly.

Orchids are pretty isn’t it?

The basic pesticide to be used or you can make all by yourself and that goes for nearly all the plants are a mixture of neem oil, neem leaves, aloe vera paste, turmeric, chili, and garlic paste.

I have a small kitchen garden where I grow vegetables mostly chillis & tomatoes. Kitchen garden reminds me of my childhood where we used to live in the police quarters since my father was a jailor.

I still remember how the fresh vegetables were grown right in front of my eyes. Vegetables like ladies finger, radish & whatnot.

Gardening is so beautiful, it teaches you how nature is a beauty with continuous process included. If you ask me which is my favorite flower, I can’t name anyone. All of them are my favorite. They are my family. If you like & love flowers & tend to be a green lover, you can always follow me on Instagram @petals&blooms
