by aditya abhishek

It is often said that, "Agriculture is the backbone of India's Economy." Hence, the role of the Agriculture Minister is pivotal in shaping policies, implementing reforms, etc.

Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) gave an estimate according to which, around 20% Gross Value Added in the country came from agriculture sector.

Around 54% of the workforce in India get employment from the agriculture sector. However, agriculture still faces a lot of issue such as bad market infrastructure, small land holdings, etc.

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar became the agriculture minister of India on 26th May, 2014. He launched SAATHI (Seed Traceability, Authentication and Holistic Inventory) Portal & Mobile App.

Under his guidance, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), Soil Health Card Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), E-NAM, etc. have been effective.

Especially Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana that safeguard farmers against the unpredictability of weather and crop-related risks & provides financial assistance.

Electronic National Agricultural Market is a digital marketplace that enables farmers to sell their produce directly to buyers hence reduces depedency on middlemen.
