Around 11.35 million hectares of land in India is used for cultivation of vegetable crops. India is the largest producer of ginger & okra in the world.
Okra or Ladyfinger is one of the most widely cultivated & consumed summer vegetable in India. Around 6 million tonnes of okra is produced in India every year.
Brinjal or Eggplant is another widely produced and consumed vegetable crop in India. Around 12.61 million tonnes of eggplant is produced in India every year.
Bottle gourds are sown from February to March & June to July in India. The total bottle gourd production in India was 2,860,000 tonnes from 2021 to 2022.
Bitter gourd is a popular nutrtious summer vegetable crop of India. Around 1,132,440 tonnes of bitter gourd was produced in India from 2021 to 2022.
Sponge gourd are easy to grow summer vegetable crops that are cultivated during spring to rainy season in India.
Cucumber is a popular summer vegetable which mainly cultivated for salad, pickles, etc. India is one of the major exporter of cucumber in the world.
Chilli are cultivated during Kharif as well as Rabi season in India. For summer season, Rabi crop is responsible to fullfill the market demand.
India is the second largest producer of pumpkin in the world. Around 5,073,678 tonnes of pumkin is produced in India every year.
India is also the second largest producer of tomato in the world. But this year, due to heat wave, unpredictible rain, pests and diseases, tomato production got decreased significantly.
Seeds of French beans are sown from January-February and July-September in the plains and March to June in the hills.
