How To Plant & Grow Banana In Pots

Introduction

Generally banana plant is grown in open field but you can also grow them in pots & enjoy enjoy home grown fruits by following these guidelines. 

Climate

You can grow banana plant in warm & humid tropical to sub-tropical climates where temperature ranges from 13ºC – 38ºC.

Soil & Potting Mix

Banana can grow in wide range of soils. Prepare potting mix by mixing 50% soil + 40% dung manure + 10% perlite + one handful of bonemeal. 

Pot Size

Select pots with at least 60 centimetres diameter and 80 centimetres depth with drainage holes at the bottom for growing banana plant. 

Plantation

Purchase a healthy banana seedling from a nursery. Plant the sucker in the center of the pot, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.

Fertilizers

Once in a month apply two handful of dung manure + 1 tablespoon bonemeal per plant to promote good growth in the plant. 

Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering. Water your plant when top layer of soil seems dry. Avoid waterlogging in the pot. 

Sunlight

Avoid keeping banana plant in low light conditions, make sure that plant recieves at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight throughout the day.
