Generally banana plant is grown in open field but you can also grow them in pots & enjoy enjoy home grown fruits by following these guidelines.
You can grow banana plant in warm & humid tropical to sub-tropical climates where temperature ranges from 13ºC – 38ºC.
Banana can grow in wide range of soils. Prepare potting mix by mixing 50% soil + 40% dung manure + 10% perlite + one handful of bonemeal.
Select pots with at least 60 centimetres diameter and 80 centimetres depth with drainage holes at the bottom for growing banana plant.
Purchase a healthy banana seedling from a nursery. Plant the sucker in the center of the pot, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
Once in a month apply two handful of dung manure + 1 tablespoon bonemeal per plant to promote good growth in the plant.
Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering. Water your plant when top layer of soil seems dry. Avoid waterlogging in the pot.
