There are over 1750 species of cactus plant in the world that you can grow in your garden. Growing cactus not only gives variation to the garden but it also makes it more beautiful. 

Types Of Cactus

Popular types of cactus that you can grow are Prickly pear, Mammillaria, Golden barrel, Bunny ears, Schlumbergera, Ferocactus, etc. 

Soil For Cactus

Cactus plant loves well draining sandy soil to grow. Prepare potting mix with 40% soil + 30% river sand + 20% dung compost + 10% perlite. 

Sunlight

Bright indirect to direct sunlight depending on variety for at least 6 hours daily promotes good growth in cactus plant. 

Watering Cactus

Cactus plant hates overwatering or soggy soil. They can even survive draught therefore let the soil dry for sometime before watering. Make sure to avoid waterlogging. 

Fertilizing Cactus

Cactus are not heavy feeders and can even survive without adding fertilizers. But you can apply one handful of leaf compost once after every 90 days. 

Handling Cactus

Avoid touching cactus plant directly with hands, you can wear gardening gloves to handle cactus time to time in the garden.
