Amaryllis is famous for their exotic trumpet shaped flowers worldwide. They are bulbous flowering plants that are also known as belladonna lily, Jersey lily, naked lady, Easter lily.
You can grow Amaryllis either directly planting bulbs from October to April or by purchasing their small seedlings from plant nursery.
They grow well in tropical climate and blooms from late winter to early spring season. Avoid growing them in chilling cold temperate climate.
Well draining soil rich in organic matter is good. Prepare potting mix with 40% soil + 30% compost + 20% cocopeat + 10% perlite.
6 weeks before planting bulbs store them at 4 to 5 degree Celsius. You can take out bulbs on planting date. Avoid keeping them along with apples.
Plant one bulb per pot, do not cover entire bulb with potting mix. Leave top portion above neck of the bulb exposed to light.
6 to 8 hours of bright direct to indirect sunlight is good for growth.Avoid keeping them in dark room or under too much sunlight.
Let the soil dry before watering. Waterlogging in pot can cause damage to bulbs. Water well to moist the soil.
After every 14 days you can spray 1/2 teaspoon NPK (10:10:10) mixed in 1 litre of water to promote good growth in the plant.
