Organic farming is gaining popularity nowadays because of the fact that it is sustainable & healthy for our health & ecosystem.
India is the center of organic farming in the world. The most number of organic farmer are from India. Around 1.3 million hectares of land is used for organic farming.
India is so important in organic farming that modern father of organic farming "Sir Albert Howard" learned concepts of organic farming in India & spread it to the rest of the world.
Post Independence, Sikkim became the first fully organic state of India. Sikkim started organic mission in 2003 & was declared as India’s first, fully organic state in January, 2016.
Despite being an agriculture dominant state of India, Sikkim has the second largest per capita income in the country which is about ₹4,12,754.
Around 65% of the total population of Sikkim is involved in organic farming due to which agriculture sector aontributes around 16% to the state's GDP.
Farmer of Sikkim follow the use of biofertilizers such as Jeevamrut, cow dung manure, crop rotation, Integrated pest managements, etc. to manage productivity of their farm.
