agriculture review

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Brazil is the largest coffee-producing country in the world, contributing 38% of global coffee production.
Brazil is not only the largest producer of coffee but also the largest exporter. In 2024, its coffee exports reached $7.35 billion, accounting for 17.4% of the global market share.
There are four most important reasons we must understand to see why Brazil dominates the global coffee industry.
The eastern and southern slopes of the Brazilian highlands provide ideal climatic conditions for coffee cultivation.
Soil formed from basaltic volcanic rocks is rich in minerals and remains fertile even after years of coffee cultivation.
European colonizers provided the initial capital to boost coffee production, and even today, some large coffee plantations in Brazil are still managed by Europeans.
During the 1870s, the spread of blight disease in Sri Lanka devastated its coffee production, giving Brazil an opportunity to fill the gap in the global market.
Thanks to these factors—complemented by supportive government policies and the efforts of farmers—Brazil continues to dominate the global coffee market.
