The United States of America is the second largest producer of walnuts in the world. Every year around 607,814 tonnes of walnuts in produced in the United States. 

California

99% of the total walnuts produced in the United States come from California, that's why it is the largest producer of walnuts in the United States. 

Climate

California has a Mediterranean-like climate with dry summers and wild wet winters which is suitable for the cultivation of walnuts. 

Soil

The walnut tree grows well in well-drained, fertile and moisture-retentive soil which is usually found in California and that's why it is cultivated on a large scale in California.
