Collective farming is a system of agricultural production in which a group of farmers collectively owns and operates their farms as a collective farm.
There are generally two types of collective farming: agricultural cooperatives & state farms. Cooperatives are owned by members of the farm while state farms are owned by a government.
It has been practiced throughout human history. In Russia, collective farming was introduced in the 1920s as a way to promote agricultural production and eliminate the vestiges of feudalism.
One of the main benefits of this farming system is that it connects small farms into larger units, which can lead to greater efficiency and productivity.
Farmers can produce more crops at a lower cost due to collaboration of labour, machinery, equipments and farmers. Therfore, input cost reduces.
By working together, farmers can share knowledge and expertise, and develop new farming techniques and technologies. It leads to prosperity of farmers.
It can lead to a lack of motivation among farmers. Since they do not own the land or the crops they produce, they may not have the same level of investment in the success of the farm.
In some cases it may lead to conflicts. Due to involvement of many farmers, decision making and planning becomes difficult. Different people may not have same opinion.
