ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) is a popular houseplant known for its attractive glossy, dark green leaves & low-maintenance requirements. Follow these tips to care for them.
It can tolerate a wide range of light conditions, from low light to bright, indirect light. However, they tend to do best in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight.
ZZ plants are drought-tolerant & prefer to be slightly underwatered than overwatered. Allow the top inch or two of the soil to dry out before watering.
Well-draining soil is important to prevent root rot. Prepare potting mix with 40% river sand + 30% garden soil + 30% any organic compost.
ZZ plants like to be slightly root-bound, so they don't need to be repotted very often. Repot when the plant roots start coming out from drainage holes at the bottom.
They are comfortable in average indoor temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C. They can tolerate lower temperatures, but avoid exposing them to drafts or cold windows.
You can feed them with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 2-3 months during the growing season (spring and summer). You can also use tea lef compost.
ZZ plants can be propagated through division or leaves. Gently remove the plant from its pot and carefully separate the rhizomes into smaller sections with roots.
ZZ plants are considered toxic if ingested, so keep them out of reach of pets and small children.
