Top Potato Producing States In India

Introduction

More than 100 countries in the world are involved in the cultivation of potatoes. According to FAO, globally around 376 million tonnes of potatoes were produced in 2021. 

Largest Producers

China is the largest producer of potatoes in the world. Annually around 99.21 million metric tonnes of potatoes (25.6%) are produced in China. 

India

India is the second largest producer of potatoes in the world. Annually around 48.61 million metric tonnes of potatoes are produced in India. 

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is the largest potato producing state of India. In 2021, around 15,892,000 tonnes of potatoes (29.65%) were produced in Uttar Pradesh. 

West Bengal 

West Bengal is the second  largest potato producing state of India. In 2021, around 12,600,000 tonnes of potatoes (23.51%) were produced in West Bengal. 

Bihar

Bihar is the third largest potato producing state of India. In 2021, around 9,125,800 tonnes of potatoes (17.2%) were produced in Bihar. 

Gujarat

Gujarat is the fourth largest potato producing state of India. In 2021, around 3,780,000 tonnes of potatoes (7.05%) were produced in Gujarat. 

Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is the fifth largest potato producing state of India. In 2021, around 3,582,000 tonnes of potatoes (6.68%) were produced in Madhya Pradesh.
