Every year around 8,900,301 tonnes of okra is produced in the world. Generally it is cultivated for its tender & delicious pods, leaves, buds, and flowers.
India is the largest producer of okra in the world. Around 5,507,000 tonnes of okra is produced in India every year on 485,000 hectares land.
Nigeria is the second largest okra producing country with annual production of around 1,978,286 tonnes. It is followed by Sudan, Mali, Pakistan, etc.
Gujarat is the largest okra producing state in India. In 2021, around 1,019,420 tonnes of okra were produced in Gujarat.
West Bengal is the second largest okra producing state in India. In 2021, around 893,960 tonnes of okra were produced in West Bengal.
Bihar is the third largest okra producing state in India. In 2021, around 794,100 tonnes of okra were produced in Bihar.
Madhya Pradesh is the fourth largest okra producing state in India. In 2021, around 754,090 tonnes of okra were produced in Madhya Pradesh.
Orissa is the fifth largest okra producing state in India. In 2021, around 662,640 tonnes of okra were produced in Orissa.
