Chilli crop can be cultivated in Rabi as well as Kharif season. They are widely used in cuisines for flavouring and health benefits.
India is the largest producer of dried chilli in the world. Around 1,702,000 tonnes of chilli was produced in India in 2020.
After India, Thailand, China, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, etc. are major chilli producing countries in the world.
Andhra Pradesh is the largest chilli producing state in India. From 2021 to 2022 around 700,000 tonnes of chilli was produced in Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana is the second largest chilli producing state in India. From 2021 to 2022 around 433,120 tonnes of chilli was produced in Telangana.
Madhya Pradesh is the third largest chilli producing state in India. From 2021 to 2022 around 296,690 tonnes of chilli was produced in Madhya Pradesh.
Karnataka is the fourth largest chilli producing state in India. From 2021 to 2022 around 184,530 tonnes of chilli was produced in Karnataka.
Orissa is the fifth largest chilli producing state in India. From 2021 to 2022 around 69,260 tonnes of chilli was produced in Orissa.
