Banana is a tropical fruit crop which origanted in Southeast Asia and South Pacific around 8000 to 5000 BC & now it is cultivated in many parts of the world.
India is the largest producer of bananas in the world. In 2021, it produced around 33.1 million tonnes of banana which is about 26.40% of the total global bananas production.
This is followed by China, Indonesia, Brazil & Ecuador. Together these countries contribute about 53.79% of the total banana production of the world.
According to the government data, Andhra Pradesh is the largest banana producing state in India. In 2021, total production was around 5,838,880 tonnes (17.99%).
Maharashtra is the second largest producer of banana in India with total production of around 4,628,040 tonnes (14.26%) in 2021.
Gujarat is the third largest producer of banana in India with total production of around 3,907,210 tonnes (12.04%) in 2021.
Tamil Nadu is the fourth largest producer of banana in India with total production of around 3,895,640 tonnes (12%) in 2021.
Karnataka is the fifth largest producer of banana in India with total production of around 3,713,790 tonnes (11.44%) in 2021.
