Cultivating orchid is considered one of the most profitable agribusiness. From one acre orchid farm a farmer can earn up to 25 lakhs Indian rupees.
Thailand is the world's leading producer as well as the exporter of orchids in the world. Around 7,420 acres of land is used for orchid cultivation.
In India around 1256 species of orchids are found. Out of which Cymbidium, Paphiopedilum, Vanda, Arachnis and Dendrobium are cultivated on a large scale.
Assam is the largest orchid producing state in India. From 2021-2022 around 4,950 tonnes of loose value & 9,980 tonnes of cut value orchid was produced in the state.
West Bengal is the second largest orchid producing state in India. From 2021-2022 around 70 tonnes of cut value orchid was produced in the state.
Madhya Pradesh is the third largest orchid producing state in India. From 2021-2022 around 50 tonnes of loose value orchid was produced in the state.
Karnataka is the fourth largest orchid producing state in India. From 2021-2022 around 50 tonnes of cut value orchid was produced in the state.
Meghalaya is the fifth largest orchid producing state in India. From 2021-2022 around 50 tonnes of cut value orchid was produced in the state.
Kerala is the sixth largest orchid producing state in India. From 2021-2022 around 10 tonnes of cut value orchid was produced in the state.
