Sweet potatoes are cultivated in hot & warm climatic conditions where temperature doesn't fall below 50ºF. They grow best in sandy loam to silt loam soils.
Sweet potato is mostly cultivated in the southern part of the United States of America. In 2019, sweet potatoes worth 588.125 million U.S. dollars were produced in the country.
In the United States, three states that are North Carolina, California and Mississippi are the major sweet potato-producing states in the country.
Mississippi is the third largest sweet potato-producing state in the United States of America. In 2021, around 442,500,000 pounds of sweet potatoes were produced in Mississippi.
California is the second largest sweet potato-producing state in the United States of America. In 2021, around 610,500,000 pounds of sweet potatoes were produced in California.
North Carolina is the largest sweet potato-producing state in the United States of America. In 2021, around 1,832,250,000 pounds of sweet potatoes were produced in North Carolina.
North Carolina contributes 64% of the total sweet potato production in America while North Carolina & California together contributes 85% of the production.
