The Ultimate Guide On Tomato Farming

Tomatoes are fruit vegetable that you can cultivate as an annual crop. Only cultivate determinate or bushy dwarf type of tomatoes to get higher yield. 

Soil

Well drained, deep, sandy loam to loamy medium black coloured soil, with soil pH ranging from 6 to 7 i.e. slightly acidic to neutral soil is ideal. 

Climate & Temperature

Depending on cultivar, you can cultivate tomato in tropical as well as temperate climate.  Temperature range from 16 to 28 degrees Celsius is good. 

Seed Rate

For 1 acre tomato farm, use 500 grams of tomato seeds treated with beejamrit to protect seeds from fungal and bacterial infections. 

Sowing

Sow seeds in line at a distance of 15 centimetres plant to plant and at depth of 2 centimetres. You can use seed drill for sowing in line. Cover with straw mulch if possible. 

Irrigation

Irrigate immediately after sowing of seeds. Then give light irrigations in the interval of 3 to 4 days after transplantation. Irrigation frequency depends on local climate, and soil type. 

Fertilizers

During tomato field preparation add 25 tonnes of FYM per hectare. Add 75 Kilograms of Nitrogen, 40 Kilograms of Phosphorus(P2O5), and 25 Kilograms of Potassium(K2O). per hectare. 

Harvesting

Early season tomato get ready for harvesting in 50 to 60 days after transplantation, mis season in 60 to 80 days, and late season in 90 to 120 days.
