by aditya abhishek

Introduction

To build strong irrigation infrastructure and improving water use efficiency in agricultural practices, government launched PMKSY in 2015.

PMKSY

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is focused on providing end-to-end solutions in the irrigation supply chain, from water sources to distribution to the farm.

Nearly 40% agricultural production in the country is rainfed (dependent on rains) which leads to low production. Therefore to solve this problem PMKSY was launched.

Achievements

Around INR 50,000 Crores was allocated to make this project a reality. From 2016 to 2022, micro-irrigation facilities have been covered on 61.72 lakh hectare land.

Brought an additional area of 14.54 lakh hectares under protective irrigation, created irrigation potential of 2.58 lakh hectare & generated new irrigation potential of  24.35 lakh hectare.
