Physiological Density: Meaning & Importance

By Aditya abhishek

mEANING

The total number of people per unit area of arable land is called Physiological density.

Formula

The formula that you can use to calculate physiological density is: Total Population ÷ Total Area of Farmland = Physiological Population Density

Outcome

Higher physiological density means that higher number of farmers are using agricultural land.

Outcome

A country with higher physiological density may reach its output limit sooner than a country that has lower physiological density.

Outcome

Moreover more farmers controlling a limited arable land can result in lower production of same crop

Outcome

Farmers are not able to earn huge profit because landholdings are small, hence production  is less.

Top list

In the world Singapore has the highest physiological density. It has a physiological density of 440,998 per square kilometre of arable land.
