Mint is a perennial herb that has significant fragrance and is famous for herbal remedies, you can start growing mint plant in pot by following these tips.
Mint plant species that you can grow in your garden are peppermint, spearmint, pineapple mint, ginger mint, horse mint, orange mint, etc.
Depending on variety you can grow mint in hot tropical as well as cold temperate climate. Mint grows well from spring to summer.
Moist, well drained soil rich in organic matter is good for growing mint plant. Prepare potting mix with 25% garden soil + 25% river sand + 25% cocopeat + 25% compost.
You can easily propagate mint through cutting in soil or water or through layering from spring to end of summer season to get new mint seedlings.
Bright direct to indirect sunlight for at least six to eight hours for develoment of flavour and growth of the plant.
Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging in the pot. Water ehenever top layer of soil seems dry for best results.
Add a handful of organic manure such as vermicompost or leaf manure once after every 30 days. Avoid adding potassium rich fertilizers.
