Just like we humans eat food for energy & growth, in the similar way plants need nutrients for growth & energy. But from where these nutrients come from...
Plant requires 17 essential nutrients for their growth & development. Out of these, on the basis of amount are categorized into two groups: Macronutrients & Micronutrients.
Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, calcium and potassium are macronutrients. Plants get Carbon, hydrogen & oxygen from air & water.
Boron, zinc, manganese, iron, copper, molybdenum, chlorine are micronutrients. Plant gets all macro & micronutrients from the soil except carbon, hydrogen & oxygen.
Macronutrients serve as the building blocks for essential plant structures and processes. They support the formation of leaves, stems, and roots, etc.
Nutrient-rich soil promotes vigorous growth, which results in growth of plants that are more resistant to pests, diseases & environmental stresses.
Micronutrients play a crucial role in supporting plant health, growth, and overall productivity. Hence it is very important to maintain soil nutrient balance.
