Peony is an alluring flowering plant which in native to Asia, Europe, & Western North America. At present there are 33 species of peony in the world.
Six types of popular peonies are Single, Japanese, Anemone, Semi-Double, Bombe, & Full Double. Folower colour varies from pink, white, red, purple, yellow, orange,etc.
Peonies can grow well in cold temperate climate where temperature remains between 0 to 6 degrees Celsius for 6 weeks to initiate flowering.
Well draining slightly acidic soil is good for peony plants. Prepare potting mix with 30% soil + 50% vermicompost + 20% cocopeat.
During late summers you can start planting peonies through division. Separate seedlings with least three buds & plenty of root to plant them.
For enhanced plant growth & flowering keep your peony plants under bright direct sunlight for at least 6 to 8 hours daily.
Do not over water, avoid waterlogging in the pot. Make sure to have drainage holes in the pot. Apply water when top layer of soil dries.
Use 1/2 teaspoon NPK (5:10:5) in 1 litre water monthly or apply handful of vermicompost + 1 teaspoon bonemeal or onion peel fertilizer.
