Heliconia, also known as false bird of paradise or lobster claw plantis a genus of around 194 species of tropical flowering plants that are native to tropical Americas.
You can grow Heliconia plants in warm and humid tropical climates. Average temperature around 26 degrees Celsius is ideal for this plant.
You can grow thwm in wide range of soils, but well draining soils rich in organic matter are good. Prepare potting mix with 50% soil + 40% compost + 10% perlite.
Dependin on varieties of Heliconi, they can grow well under bright direct to indirect sunlight throughout the day. Avoid keeping them in low light.
Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging in the pot. Water twice during very hot summer days. Do not let the soil dry for longer spells.
Once after every month you can spply 1/2 teaspoon of NPK (2:1:2) diluted in 1 lite of water to promote growth & flowering in the Heliconia plant.
Heliconias are active from spring to end of fall season. They kep producing beutiful flowers from spring to end of summer season. Hence, you need to take good care during this time.
