Growing belt of camellia stretches from East Himalayas to Japan & Indonesia. In the world there are around 220 species & 3,000 hybrids of camellia flowering plant.
Camellia can grow well in cold temperate climate. USDA Zones 6 to 9 are perfect for growing this beautiful flowering plant.
Camellia plant start flowering from February to June & July depending on variety. Add onion peel fertilizer to increase flowering.
Well draining slightly moist & acidic soil rich in organic matter is good for camellia. Prepare potting mix with 40% soil + 30% vermicompost + 20% cocopeat + 10% river sand.
Bright indirect to less intense direct sunlight throughout the day is ideal for growing and caring camellia plant. Avoid keeping in harsh direct sunlight
Regular watering is essential, do not let the soil dry for longer duration, add water whenever top layer of soil becomes dry.
Add 3 to 4 handful of vermicompost along with 1 table spoon bonemeal powder before and after flowering per plant.
During the active growing season you can propagate camellia by taking their stem cuttings and planting bottom end in soil.
