How To Plant Garlic In The Fall

Garlic is an edible bulb that adds remarkable flavour to the food and you can grow them in your garden by following these impotant guidelines.

Climate 

Garlic grows best in cool climate. Temperature ranging from 12 to 18 degrees Celsius is good for growth of garlic plant. 

Soil

Well drained soil rich in organic matter is good. Prepare potting mix with 50% garden soil + 20% cocopeat + 30% organic compost. 

How To Plant?

Separate cloves from garlic bulbs few days before planting. without damaging cloves. 

Plant garlic cloves 2 inches deep and 4 inches apart. Keep the pointed end upwards and wider end in touch with soil. 

Sunlight

6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily is required for good growth of garlic. Hence avoid growing in low light condition. 

Watering

Keep the soil little moist but avoid waterlogging as it can damage bulbs. Water only when to layer of soil dries. 

Fertilizers

Use chicken manure or neem cake fertilizer or leaf compost once after every 30 days to fertilize garlic plant. 

Harvesting

When stem starts yellowing and falling and leaves turning brown, then you can start harvesting garlic bulbs carefully during morning hours.
