How To Grow & Harvest Radish

Growing Time

Radish is a winter season root vegetable that you can grow from seeds from September to November in tropical region while from February to March in temperate region. 

Soil & Potting Mix

Sandy loam soil is considered best for growing radishes. Prepare potting mix with 50% normal garden soil + 30% cocopeat + 20% any organic compost.

Companion Plants

Lettuce, Carrots, Tomatoes, Spinach, Onions, Mint, Oregano, etc. are companion plants of radish. You can grow them together. 

Seed sowing

Sow seeds in line or broadcast them in pot filled with potting mix. Then cover with a thin layer of soil and apply water. Keep it evenly moist, within 3 to 4 days seedlings will emerge. 

Sunlight

Bright direct sunlight for at least 6 hours promote good growth in radish but they can also grow in indirect sunlight. 

Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging in the pot. Make sure your pot has drainage holes at the bottom. Apply water when top layer soil becomes dry. 

Fertilizers

After adding organic compost in the pot at the beginning, you do not need to add fertilizer to grow radish plant. 

Harvesting Radish

Within 4 to 7 weeks after planting depending on variety radish will become ready to be harvested. Loose the soil around the plant and uplift the plant gently with your hand.
