Radish is a winter season root vegetable that you can grow from seeds from September to November in tropical region while from February to March in temperate region.
Sandy loam soil is considered best for growing radishes. Prepare potting mix with 50% normal garden soil + 30% cocopeat + 20% any organic compost.
Lettuce, Carrots, Tomatoes, Spinach, Onions, Mint, Oregano, etc. are companion plants of radish. You can grow them together.
Sow seeds in line or broadcast them in pot filled with potting mix. Then cover with a thin layer of soil and apply water. Keep it evenly moist, within 3 to 4 days seedlings will emerge.
Bright direct sunlight for at least 6 hours promote good growth in radish but they can also grow in indirect sunlight.
Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging in the pot. Make sure your pot has drainage holes at the bottom. Apply water when top layer soil becomes dry.
After adding organic compost in the pot at the beginning, you do not need to add fertilizer to grow radish plant.
Within 4 to 7 weeks after planting depending on variety radish will become ready to be harvested. Loose the soil around the plant and uplift the plant gently with your hand.
