Tomato is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Potassium, and Folate. They originated in western South America, Mexico, and Central America. You can grow this plant by following these tips.
You can sow tomato seeds in November for spring harvest, in February to March for summer harvest, & in June to July for autumn harvest.
Well draining soil rich in organic matter is good for growing tomato. Prepare potting mix with 40% soil + 20% river sand + 40% any organic compost.
Start growing tomatoes from seed by sowing seeds in germination tray or pots. Keep soil evenly moist under indirect sunlight. Within 10 days tomato seedlings will start emerging.
Once your tomato seedling reaches 3 to 4 true leaved stage then you can start transplanting them to the main pot. Apply water immediately after transplantation.
Bright direct sunlight for at least 6 to 8 hours throughout the day is essential for better growth and development in tomato plant.
Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging in the pot and dry spells for longer duration. Apply water whenever top layer of soil becomes dry.
Staking tomato plant with help of a wooden stick and tying plant to the stick with the help of rope carefully is essential to avoid plant damage.
In the beginning feed with 1/2 teaspoon of NPK in the ratio 10:10:10. During flowering you can use NPK (5:10:10) or use only dung manure & onion peel fertilizer (Organic).
