Eggplants or Brinjal is a healthy & delicious vegetable that you can grow in your garden very easily by following our guidelines.
Eggplant can grow from March to November in tropical to sub tropical climate or in USDA zones 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
Well drained, sandy loam soil that is rich in organic matter is good. Prepare potting mix with 60% sandy loam soil + 40% organic compost
You can propagate eggplant from seeds. Sow seeds 2 centimetres deep in pot filled with potting mix, apply water, keep in indirect sunlight.
At least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily is necessary for good growth of eggplants otherwise plant and fruit size will get reduced.
Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging condition. Apply water only when the top layer of the soil seems dry.
Once after every 30 days add two to three handful of dung manure or leaf compost. During flowering add bone-meal or onion peel fertilizers.
Tomato, Pepper, and potato are the great companion plants of eggplant. You can grow them together in your garden to get best results.
