How To Grow & Care For Bunny Ear Cactus

Introduction

Opuntia microdasys or Bunny Ear Cactus is native to Mexico & a popular indoor cactus plant that you can grow well very easily. 

Climate

They can grow well in warm & dry climatic condition where temperature ranges from 21 to 37 degrees Celsius. Avoid growing them in high humidity. 

Soil & Potting Mix

Well draining sandy soil is good for growing this cactus plant. Prepare potting mix with 3 parts soil, 1 part river sand, 1 part compost & 1 part perlite. 

Sunlight

Bunny ear cactus plant can grow well in bright indirect sunlight for at least 5 to 6 hours daily. Avoid keeping them in low light or harsh direct sunlight. 

Watering

You don't need to water often, let the soil dry before watering, they are draught tolerant. Overwatering or waterlogging can damage this plant. 

Fertilizers

They are not heavy feeders. After every 90 days add a handful of neem cake fertilizer or leaf compost to grow this amazing plant. 

Propagation

Remove mature pads from mother plant carefully and plant 1.4th of bottom portion in the soil, roots will start growing within 10 to 15 days.
