If you are a fan of sour taste of lemon then you will surely love growing them in your garden. Lemon tree can grow up to 4 to 10 feet high in pots.
If you are willing to grow them in pots, then select dwarf varities such as Dwarf Meyer Lemon Tree or any available dwarf variety for best results.
Warm and humid climate with temperature ranging from 13 to 35 degree Celsius id ideal for growing lemons.
Well drained sandy soil with neutral pH is good. Prepare potting mix with 50% garden soil + 30% organic compost + 20% cocopeat + 1 teaspoon fungicide powder.
You can propagate lemon tree from seeds or through cuttings or budding during spring season. Seed grown lemon take 6 years to produce fruit.
Lemon tree requires 6 to 8 hours of bright direct sunlight daily for better growth, enhanced flowering and fruiting.
Taking care of appropriate water is crucial for lemons. Avoid waterlogging condition in the pot, water only when top layer of soil dries.
Use two handful of leaf manure along with one teaspoon bonemeal or onion peel fertilizer once after every 30 days.
Lemon blooms mainly three times, in early spring, late summer, and fall. During this time take care of fertilzer and watering to get heavy fruiting.
