The Ultimate Guide On Grape Farming

Soil 

Clayey or loamy to sandy loam, well drained soil  rich in organic matter that has pH range of around 6.5 to 7.5 is ideal. Avoid cultivation in alkaline soil.

Climate & Temperature

warm temperate, sub-tropical to tropical climate to an extent is good. Temperature range of 15 to 35 degrees Celsius is ideal with annual rainfall of about 900 mm. 

Variety Selection

This is very important, select variety that are adapted for your local climate and are in high demand in international to national markets. 

Plantation

Practice plantation from October to February. Follow spacing of 6 ×3 for vigorous variety. Start plantation in pits of 60 to 90 centimetres depth. Fill these pits with FYM & Bone-meal. 

Fertilizers

Add 700 Kilograms of Nitrogen, 600 Kilograms of Phosphorus and  1000 Kilograms of Potassium per hectare every year. Apply half doze of fertilizers during pruning

Training & Pruning

Practice head, bower, Kniffin, or arbour training system in your farm. Within a year practice first pruning in April and second pruning in  October.

Harvesting

Two years after plantation, grapevines will start fruiting.  Practice harvesting during early morning.
