To boost commercial floriculture of Jammu & Kashmir, government has approved Rupees 39 crore mega project.
The climatic condition of Jammu & Kashmir is perfect for the cultivation of Lilium, Rose, Carnation Gerbera, Lavender, Saffron, Zinnia, Salvia & other popular flower crops.
The horticulture sector contributes about 9% to the GDP of J & K and employs around 27% of the total population. Floriculture is a part of horticulture.
Hence if such mega projects by the government work out perfectly, they can generate many future opportunities for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
The government is focusing on "Cluster-based area expansion of small ornamental nurseries" to increase yield & productivity.
Technological advancements such as improvements in farming technology, on-farm distillation units, cold storage, transport and marketing are also going to take place.
