Coleus is an amazing bright coloured, perennial to annual foliage plant that you can grow indoors as well as outdoors. This plant can grow up to 36 inches high and is famous for colourful leaves.
Spring is the best time to propagate and start growing and planting coleus plant. However you can plant anytime in a year except harsh summers and winters.
Moist, loose soil that is rich in organic matter and is well drained is ideal. Prepare potting mix with 40% garden soil + 20% cocopeat + 40% organic manure.
You can plant coleus at a spot where bright indirect to direct sunlight is available for at least 4 to 6 hours daily.
Coleus plant love slightly moist soil to grow but hates soggy soil. Only water when top layer of soil becomes dry. Both over & underwatering can damage this plant.
You can add nitrogen rich fertilizers such as tea leaf compost or cow dung manure once after every 60 days.
Time to time pruning and pinching of branches is necessary to make this plant bushier. Pinch out flowering buds to promote vegetative growth in the plant.
Propagating coleus is very easy. In mixture of sand and soil plant 4 inches cutting and keep the medium slightly moist. Within a week it will develop roots.
