People of Chola dynasty were known for their advancements in agriculture, irrigation & infrastructure development.
They were one of the longest-ruling dynasties in the history of southern India, spanning from the 9th century to the 13th century CE.
Cholas used water of Kaveri river for agriculture purposes, primarily for irrigating their fields to raise crops. It is still one of the major rivers in southern India.
Also known as the Cauvery River originates in the Western Ghats of Karnataka & flows through the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu before emptying into the Bay of Bengal.
The Cholas recognized the agricultural potential of the fertile Kaveri basin & constructed several irrigation canals to harness the river's water for irrigation.
Hence, it helped farmers to cultivate rice, sorghum, nuts, sugarcane and ragi. Farmers of this dynasty not only practiced monocropping but also focused on multiple cropping.
