5 Advantages Of Organic Farming

by aditya abhishek

Introduction

Green Revolution was introduced to increase food production worldwide to meet the increasing food demand, it included the introduction of GMO seeds and agrochemicals.

Outcome

However, the Green Revolution really helped farmers to increase food production, but due to the overuse of agrochemicals, tillage, etc., soil health started deteriorating.

Advantages

To improve soil health, organic farming is necessary. Here are the five advantages of organic farming for farmers and everyone else in the world.

Reduced Pollution

Due to the use of agrochemicals, soil and nearby water bodies get polluted, hence using organic fertilizers or bio-fertilizers helps to reduce pollution.

Soil Health

Avoiding the use of agrochemicals helps to maintain the microbes population in the soil that converts partially decomposed materials into organic matter which improves soil health.

Soil Erosion

In organic farming, farmers practice minimum or zero tillage, crop rotation, cover cropping, mulching, etc. which helps to reduce soil erosion caused due to the action of wind and water.

Quality Food

Organic farming is more regulated than inorganic farming, hence quality is assured and no chemical pesticides are used, thus maintaining healthy food.

Ecosystem

Organic farming helps to build a healthy ecosystem. Farm waste is reused after being completely composted. This decreases external costs and increases efficiency.
