The <strong>tallest one<\/strong> reached the height of<strong> 30.1 feet<\/strong>, which is a world record. It is an<strong> annual plant<\/strong> and produces <strong>daisy like flowers<\/strong> that can be very large to medium sized. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Large variety flowers can reach up to <strong>12 inches<\/strong> in size and are known to attract pollinators. Sunflower is a <strong>sun loving plant<\/strong>. Hence it will require good amount of sunlight to grow. Moreover, get to know growing season, potting mix, pot selection, propagation method. <br><br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Growing_Season\"><\/span>\u092e\u094c\u0938\u092e<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">You can grow sunflowers in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/agriculturereview.com\/hi\/2020\/09\/what-planting-zone-am-i-in-read-or-miss-out.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plant hardiness zones<\/a><\/strong> 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. You can start sowing seeds during spring season. <strong>Soil temperature<\/strong> of around <strong>21 to 30 degrees Celsius<\/strong> is considered <strong>best <\/strong>for <strong>germination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Sunflower plant can <strong>tolerate <\/strong>temperature varying from<strong> 8 to 34 degrees Celsius<\/strong>. Hence you can easily grow them in hot temperate, sub tropical to tropical regions. Generally I start sowing seed outdoors in early March. <br><br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Potting_Mix\"><\/span>\u092e\u093f\u091f\u094d\u091f\u0940 \u0915\u093e \u092e\u093f\u0936\u094d\u0930\u0923<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Sunflower plant loves <strong>well drained<\/strong>, <strong>loamy <\/strong>to <strong>sandy <\/strong>loam soil that is <strong>rich <\/strong>in <strong>organic matter<\/strong>. However it can also grow in various other types of soil. But there should be not waterlogging problem in the pot or field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">It can <strong>tolerate <\/strong>soil <strong>\u092a\u0940\u090f\u091a<\/strong> range of <strong>6.0 <\/strong>to<strong> 7.5<\/strong>. Hence you can also grow them in slightly alkaline to acidic soil. For best growth of the plant you can also prepare ideal potting mix. But if you have well drained soil then only adding compost is sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Prepare ideal potting mix with <strong>40% garden soil<\/strong> + <strong>20% cocopeat <\/strong>+ <strong>40% any organic compost<\/strong>. Sunflower is a heavy feeder. Hence it requires lot of fertilizer to grow and prosper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">If your soil is too much <strong>clayey <\/strong>then you can also use <strong>10% river sand <\/strong>in this mixture. I will suggest to add <strong>one tablespoon fungicide<\/strong> in this mixture if possible. It will help to prevent any fungal infection. <br><br><br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Selection_Of_Pot\"><\/span>\u0917\u092e\u0932\u0947 \u0915\u093e \u091a\u092f\u0928<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Selection of pot mainly depends on variety and growth stage of the plant. However you can select a <strong>12 inched size pot<\/strong> for growing and caring for sunflower plant. I prefer <strong>earthen<\/strong> \u092f\u093e <strong>terracotta pot<\/strong> for sunflower plant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">But you can also grow them in plastic pots. Make sure that your pot has at least 2 to 4 drainage holes at the bottom. You can also cover this holes with pebbles to prevent blockage of drainage holes. <br><br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_To_Grow_Sunflower_Seeds\"><\/span>How To Grow Sunflower Seeds?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">To germinate sunflower seeds you can prepare potting mix with <strong>70% cocopeat<\/strong> + <strong>30% organic compost<\/strong>. Or you can also use the potting mix that I described earlier. Select any container with <strong>6 inches depth<\/strong> or more with drainage holes at the bottom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\"><strong>Fill <\/strong>the <strong>container <\/strong>with <strong>potting mix<\/strong>. And <strong>broadcast seeds<\/strong> in the <strong>germination pot<\/strong>. <strong>Cover <\/strong>it with a <strong>thin layer<\/strong> of <strong>potting mix<\/strong> and apply water gently. Keep this germination pot <strong>under partial shade sunlight<\/strong>. Maintain adequate moisture and<strong> within 7 to 10 days<\/strong> you will notice new seedlings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">For fast germination you can treat the seeds with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/agriculturereview.com\/hi\/2020\/12\/beejamrit-how-to-prepare-and-use.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beejamrut<\/a><\/strong>. Or covering the germination pot with transparent polythene or paper will also help. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">Once your seedling reaches<strong> 4 to 6 inches<\/strong> in <strong>height <\/strong>then you can transplant them in the main pot. Prepare the potting mix and transplant the seedlings. I will suggest to practice transplanting during evenings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:20px\">After transplantation keep the pot under semi shade for 4 to 5 days. Once you notice healthy growth in your plant then shift it under direct sunlight.
