If you are looking to grow winter flowers that can win hearts, then pansy could be your choice. They are also perfect for hanging pots & produces multicolour flowers throughout winters.
In cold temperate regions they grow as perennials but in hot tropical regions they grow as winter flowering plants. USDA Zones 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 are good for pansy.
Well drained soil rich in organic matter is good. Prepare potting mix with 40% garden soil + 20% cocopeat + 30% organic compost + 10% river sand. Add a pinch of fungicide too!
Fill the pot with potting mix, broadcast seeds and cover with thin layer of potting mix, apply water, keep under indirect sunlight, maintain moisture timely and wait for 10 days.
6 to 8 hours of bright direct to indirect sunlight daily is ideal for pansy. But under direct sunlight they flower heavily. Avoid keeping in low light condition.
Keep the soil little moist but avoid soggy condition. Apply water when top layer of soil becomes dry. Make sure to have drainage holes at the bottom of the pot.
Avoid adding nitrogen rich fertilizers. Instead use NPK 5:10:10 once in a month, or two handful cow dung manure + 1 teaspoon bone-meal + 250 ml diluted onion peel fertilizer.
To make plant bushy and get heavy flowering pinch out secondary branches and new buds in early days to make plant bushy, stop pinching once it reaches desired shape.
