Schefflera also known as "Umbrella plant" is a popular houseplant that can absorb pollutants from air, it can grow upto 4 to 20 metres tall & has palmately compound leaves.
Schefflera or umbrella plant is native to Taiwan that has warm and moderately humid climate. They grow easily in USDA zones 10 to 12.
Schefflera prefers moderately moist soil rich in organic matter with pH around 6.5. Prepare potting mix with 50% garden soil + 30% compost + 20% cocopeat.
During spring season you can propagate schefflera by planting 6 inches stem cuttings dipped in rooting hormone, roots develops within a month.
Umbrella plant loves to grow well in bright indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves & lin low light plant can get leggy.
From spring to fall do not let the soil in the pot dry completely. Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging. Water whenever soil becomes dry.
Schefflera are heavy feeders, apply one tablespoon tea leaf compost or a handful of dung manure once after every 14 days from spring to fall.
Mealy bugs, aphids, spider mites, etc. are the most common pest. Use neem oil in water or any other oragnic pesticides to control these pests.
