agriculture review

It is an integrated farming technique that involves the cultivation of crops and management of livestock to reduce greenhouse gas emssions, pollution and increase food production.
Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) is based on 3 pillars: increasing productivity and income; resilience to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
We are experiencing the global effects of climate change on our food production system. Therefore, to secure a continuous food supply we need to adopt climate-smart agriculture.
Climate Smart Agriculture advocates the use of heat and drought-tolerant varieties of crops to reduce losses or low yield due to the effect of climate change.
Mulching helps to retain moisture in the soil, prevent the growth of weeds, helps in thermoregulation, etc. hence increasing the water use efficiency in the field.
Climate Smart Agriculture involves the usage of efficient irrigation systems such as drip, partial root zone, etc. to reduce wastage of water and increase efficiency.
It also involves cultivating crops in a controlled environment under a polyhouse to reduce the effect of climate change on agricultural production.
To follow Climate Smart Agriculture, farmers have to maintain hygiene and waste management systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from cattle waste.
