Domestic Export and Marketing Intelligence Cell of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University conducted a survey on the production and consumption of cotton in the country.
According to the survey, TNAU predicted that good quality cotton prices could rise from 6,800 to 7,100 rupees per quintal from October 2023 to February 2024.
However, the minimum selling price set up by the government for cotton is ₹6,620 per quintal. Hence, the cotton farmers of the country can make good profit in the upcoming days.
Farmers can cultivate cotton crops in tropical to sub-tropical climates. Deep black soil is considered ideal for the cultivation of cotton.
TNAU has also advised farmers to grow cotton in this season to get market prices of ₹7,100 per quintal during January to February 2024.
However, according to the survey, cotton plantations in the northern regions of the country have been affected by pink bollworm pest infestations.
That's why farmers of Tamil Nadu should be well prepared to tackle any pest infestations on the cotton farm.
