It is an innovative & sustainable aquaculture technique that involves the cultivation of fish in an environment enriched with microbial flocs.
Bacteria, protozoa, and other microorganisms are used as flocs in the system. They convert the organic waste produced by the fish into a valuable protein source.
Hence water quality is maintained to create a recycling & sustainable environment. Carbon source, such as molasses or carbohydrates to promote organisms growth.
By using biofloc fish farming technique farmers do not have to change water regularly, hence wastage of water reduces.
The organic waste produced by the fish is converted into microbial biomass hence environmental pollution reduces.
Flocs used in biofloc fish farming system can help control pathogenic microorganisms. Thus risk of disease outbreak reduces.
Dependency on external feed reduces, it result in cost savings and increased profitability. Moreover, it results in increased productivity.
