A digestive juice produced by liver of bears is bear bile. People forcefully domesticate bear due to medicinal properties & uses of bear bile.
Bear bile is high in ursodeoxycholic acid, which is useful in treating liver and dissolving gall bladder stones in humans.
Because of the benefits it is used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. But there are herbal & synthetic alternatives available.
At least 10,000 bears are kept in tiny cages on bile farms in countries such as China, South Korea, Laos, etc. There are around 100 large scale bear bile farms in China.
Bear bile farming is completely legal in China but in Vietnam it has been made illegal since 1992. But still some people practices secretly.
Various cruel techniques are being practiced to extract bile from bear. In "Free Dip" method a hole is made in the stomach which is reopened continously to extract bile.
In the world there are around 50 herbs such as cinnamon, frangipani, mugwort, etc. available that have similar properties as bear bile juice.
