They can grow and survive in soil as well as water medium. However they not only add beauty to the home but they are also wonderful air purifying plant. Arrowhead plant can filter air toxins such as Benzene, Xylene, Formaldehyde, and Toluene from the air.

Growing Season

You can grow arrowhead plant in USDA plant hardiness zones 10, 11, and 12. Generally you can grow them in tropical to sub tropical regions. You can even propagate arrowhead plant from stem cutting anytime in the year except during harsh winters and summers.

Although the best season for propagation and repotting is spring and rainy season for arrowhead plants.



Potting Mix

Arrowhead plant loves moist but well drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil. Make sure to avoid waterlogging problem. You can easily prepare ideal potting mix by mixing 40% garden soil + 30% cocopeat + 30% any organic compost.




Selection Of Pot

I prefer growing arrowhead plants in a 8 inches to 12 inches pot depending on the growth of the plant. However, I make sure to have at least 2 to 4 drainage holes at the bottom of the pot.

You can select earthen, cemented as well as plastic pots for growing this houseplant. Gardeners also love to grow them in hanging pots as well.

Arrowhead plant loves bright indirect sunlight to grow. Hence to care for this houseplant keep it at a place where it can receive filtered bright indirect sunlight. This also helps to make plant bushy.

However, green leaved arrowhead plant can also grow and survive under low intensity light. Under low intensity sunlight plant height will increase in response to sunlight.

Do not keep this plant under direct sunlight as this can lead to burning of leaves.




Watering

Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging in the pot. I apply water whenever I notice top layer of the soil becoming dry. During hot and dry summer days misting the plant with water also helps in caring for arrowhead plant.




Fertilizers

Arrowhead plant is not a heavy feeder. Hence you do not need to worry about fertilizing this plant. You can fertilize with a handful of any organic compost like vermicompost, or kitchen waste compost, etc. once after every 60 days.

Pests & Diseases

Arrowhead plant rarely get infested with any pest or disease. However under severe case your plant can get infected from pests like mealy bugs, aphids, spider mites, etc.

Diseases like powdery mildew, root rot, or leaf spot disease can also damage the plant.

Avoid waterlogging condition in the pot to save your arrowhead plant from root rot disease.
